Automated Software Tools Corporation About Automated Software Tools
z390 Portable Mainframe Assembler and Emulator
Welcome!  Automated Software Tools develops and supports open source software tools in mainframe assembler and Java which are portable across Windows and Linux using J2SE runtime.  If you need a new utility program, custom enhancements, priority support, training, or application conversion assistance, hourly or fixed price service rates are available.

z390 Portable Mainframe Assembler and Emulator Project has been the first major project. This tool enables developers to assemble, link, and execute mainframe assembler applications on Windows or Linux.  The tool is available for download and install on Windows using InstallShield and comes with demos and optional regression tests.  Recent additions include COBOL and z390 Assembler SOA Support, VSAM, and EXEC CICS support.

         Don Higgins, President
Don has developed a number of successful system software tools for IBM mainframes and PC's starting with the shareware version of PC/370 mainframe assembler, linker, and emulator released for IBM PC's in 1985.    This tool has been used as a teaching aide by thousands of students and several books have been published which use this tool.

Prior to starting Automated Software Tools, Don spent 9 years working full time for Micro Focus where he supported several mainframe assembler related products including MF/370, Revolve, and the Mainframe Express HLL compatible mainframe assembler, linker, emulator, and debugger.

Prior to Micro Focus, Don spent 25 years working for Florida Power Corporation starting as a systems programmer, and serving over 15 years as Director of Information Services.  During the last 3 years, he served as a technical manager on the joint development with Accenture of the first electric utility true client server Customer Service System using IBM mainframe server with CICS and DB2 and 1200 Windows NT clients connected over a TCP/IP wide area private network.  The system went live in 1995 with sub-second response time and was nominated for inclusion in Smithsonian Museum as a significant technological achievement.

Other activities in the past have included active participation in ACM and SHARE organizations including the publication of several papers and the release of numerous public domain macros and utilities through the SHARE program library.  There have been several recent SHARE presentations on the z390 project.
